A dedicated BBC Sports app has landed on the iPhone and iPod Touch today, aiming to make it easier to stay on top of your favourite athletic diversions.

Avaiable to download now from the App Store, the free app pulls in results, updates and news from the Beeb’s sports site, as well as live text commentaries and streams of 5 Live and 5 Live Extra.

And because this is a mobile app and it’s 2013, social features are present too, as well as the option to customise the news you get and how it’s presented. Updates are also set to bring live and on-demand video.

Ben Gallop, head of Interactive at BBC Sport, said: “The app is a major step forward in our development and one that recognises the importance of mobile, right now and in the future.”

An Android version of the app is set to be rolled out during the “next few weeks” pending ongoing tests to ensure it works with a range of devices. An edition for the Kindle Fire is also expected to roll up “in due course”.
